1984 marked the 22nd running of the Daytona 24 hour race at the Daytona International Speedway road course. The race was the opening round of the IMSA GT Championship and the GTP class overall victory went to the No. 00 Kreepy Krauly Racing March 83G of Sarel van der Merwe, Graham Duxbury and Tony Martin, who completed 640 laps in total.
Close behind in second place on 631 laps, was the Henn's Swap Shop Racing Porsche 935 of A.J. Foyt, Bob Wollek and Derek Bell, with the Group 44 Jaguar XJR-5 of Doc Bundy, David Hobbs and Bob Tullius rounding out the top three positions.
