The 1986 Nurburgring 1000 kms was a dramatic race in all respects. Atrocious weather conditions turned the high-speed track into a skating rink with extremely poor visibility. Nevertheless, the cameras were well able to capture the action and the many consequences - including the restart. Porsche, Jaguar and Mercedes were on parade ready to fight out the honours. Derek Warwick and Jan Lammers were expected to boost British prestige in the Jaguar, backed by team-mates Eddie Cheever and Jean-Louis Schlesser.
