World Championship status was Bathurst's reward in 1987 and the race was racked with controversy and bitterness. The best in the world were there, including the magnificent Eggenberger Sierras, and it was they who took victory only to be disqualified later for a fuel infringement and victory once again went to Peter Brock's Commodore, although it wasn't an easy victory with the other Fords and BMWs giving him a hard time. They don't call Brock ‘King of the Mountains’ for nothing.
