Round 9, Sunday, September 13th
Once again the rain returns to Spa, but failed to unduly dampen the enthusiasm for the Koureos 1000 Sports Car World Championship in it’s ninth round.
Expected to throw up the name of the individual champion, the Silk Cut Jaguar line-up of Martin Brundle, Johnny Dumfries and Raul Boesel were favourites for victory, which would give the title to Brazilian Boesel.
Tom Walkinshaw's other cars were to be run by Jan Lammers John Watson and Eddie Cheever and John Nielsen, so there was plenty of strength in the Big Cats' sure-footed march towards the title.
This video sees the cameramen refusing to be put off by the rain as they stick to their positions to record the full event at Europe's most scenic and spectacular circuit. But it wasn't just the Jaguars! Hans Stuck, Bob Wollek and Derek Bell had the powerful Rothmans Joest Porsche 962 and Jochenh Mass and Oscar Larrauri the similar Brun/FAT version.
Pitwork was almost as vital as the race itself and no incident is unrecorded as the mighty sports cars slither into and out of the bays, slick driver changes and even slicker mechanical miracles being performed by the back-up crews proving vital.
