Round 8, Sunday, August 30th
The champagne was on ice. But would Tom Walkinshaw be popping the corks to celebrate TWR Jaguar's World Sports Car Championship at the end of the punishing ADAC 1000 at Nurburgring?
The Silk Cut Big Cats were certainly capable of winning the crown. They had demonstrated at all but Le Mans that they were the top team.
But Nurburgring proved a very tough race, as viewers of this video can find out. Pole position was taken by the Liqui Moly Porsche driven by Mauro Baldi and Jonathon Palmer.
If the Jaguars thought that was the end of their challenge, they would be mistaken. The Rothmans-Joest Porsche of Derek Bell Hans Stuck was very much on the pace.
Nerves were therefore taught in the TWR stable. Eddie Cheever Raul Boesel had one car, John Watson and Jan Lammers the other. Experienced men all. But always the thought that it could all go wrong was ever present, especially with lots of circuit traffic to contend with.
To learn the outcome, watch this gripping encounter on the new 'Ring. You'll not be disappointed.
