The Mini is unquestionably Britain’s best-loved car so when it turned 40 in August 1999 the birthday celebrations had to be something special. They were - and this official video is the ultimate souvenir! Firstly, hundreds of Mini drivers gathered at the Heritage Motor Centre for a wonderful display of Minis, including Paddy Hopkirk’s famous Monte Carlo rally winner. A week later over 70,000 fans arrived at Silverstone for races, a rallysprint, Russ Swift doing his incomparable two-wheeled stunts and a recreation of the Mini’s role in the classic movie ‘The Italian Job’. Examples of just about every Mini ever made were on display alongside customised specials. Partygoers even got a sneak preview of the 2001 Mini!
