Long Beach California was host to the 1985 World Team Championship Final, with teams from the United States, Denmark, Britain and Sweden fighting for speedway's premier team trophy. 

Expectations were high that the home team, with Bruce Penhall as non-riding team captain could stop Denmark from taking their third consecutive championship.
