The 'Olympics of Motorcycling', as it is known, takes place once a year as a supreme test of men and motorcycles over 1,200 miles of tortuous, mainly off-road routes. A colourful and exciting sporting occasion which is unique in so many ways. 

Countries represented range from Poland to Mexico, with Sweden, E Germany and Italy amongst the favourites. You also see individual battles waged right down the 380-strong field as well as the rivalry of different manufacturers. Above all each rider must beat the terrain! Many don't make the finish and you'll see why in this programme.
