Scarborough International Gold Cup 2016
Dean Harrison has made the Scarborough Gold Cup his own in the last few years, echoing the success of fellow Yorkshireman David Jefferies whose crowd pleasing antics on the tricky parkland course earned him many fans in the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
Dean’s a fast and safe rider and that’s just the right combination for the narrow, windy lanes that make up England’s only real road racing circuit.
The big end of season meeting at Oliver’s Mount always brings out the stars – and the crowds – and 2016’s event was no different.
Challenging Dean for the top spot was Ivan Lintin (himself a past Gold Cup Winner), Dan Kneen, John McGuinness, James Cowton, Derek Shiels, William and Michael Dunlop and more.
Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance were the cream of the field in the sidecar class, showing a clean pair of heels to the Ramsdens, Wayne Lockey, and Greg Lambert, amongst others. A notable hole in the sidecar fixtures was Ian Bell, for so long a cheerful, friendly but determined campaigner at Oliver’s Mount, his loss was felt fans and competitors alike.
The Official Reviews packs in highlights of all the main races, filmed from multiple camera angles, with the added bonus of some good onboard footage and lots and lots of awesome action.
