The 8th round of the World Championship Bike Grand Prix should have taken place in Yugoslavia but was held on the Jarama circuit just outside Madrid, Spain. All eyes were fixed on the famous five, Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan (Rothmans Honda), Kevin Schwantz (Lucky Strike Suzuki), reigning World Champion Wayne Rainey and team mate John Kocinski both riding Marlboro Yamahas. Spanish speedster Carlos Cardus (Repsol Honda) had the home crowd on its feet with his spectacular bid for 250 victory against championship leader Luca Cadalora (Rothmans Honda).
