Eddie Lawson ended the 1985 season the same way he started it - with a win on the Marlboro Yamaha but was disappointed to lose his crown to Freddie Spencer. He held off the hard-trying Hondas of Wayne Gardner and Randy Mamola. Gardner equalled Ron Haslam's championship points and tied for fourth place. But Randy Mamola amazed everyone when he performed a rodeo act of unprecedented athleticism when he did everything but fall off at least four times on his Honda. And went on to finish third! Venezuelan Carlos Lavada won the 250cc race on the new Yamaha.
