Relive the extraordinary talent and tragically short-lived career of Jarno Saarinen on Download and DVD. Although we have only one programme about Jarno Saarinen, the Finnish motorcycle hero has his own section on our website because he is one of Duke’s favourite sport stars. After an early career in speedway, he made his motorcycle Grand Prix debut in 1970. Saarinen was an incredible talent, challenging for the 250cc and 350cc World Championships from day one, and claiming the 250cc title in 1972. He had the chance to prove his talent against the likes of Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read in the 500cc class in 1973, and immediately marked himself as one of the greats – winning the first two 500cc GPs of the season AND the first three 250cc races! He was a clear favourite for both titles, until tragedy hit at Monza and Saarinen was killed in a crash. Despite such a short career, he scored 15 Grand Prix wins, earned thousands of fans and established his place in history – enough to be inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame in 2009. Jarno Saarinen is a racing talent you simply must watch.
