Product description

The Pirelli Classic Marathon is a celebration of a Golden Era of British rallying, bringing together an amazing collection of vintage cars for an epic journey across Europe. The Classic Marathon combines speed tests, long runs through glorious scenery and gruelling climbs through mountain passes in the longest event of its kind in the world.

In 1990, 118 vintage motorcars were gathered in London for a seven-day, 2,000-mile expedition across the continent. There was an all-star cast of drivers, including former Grand Prix greats Stirling Moss and Clay Regazzoni, rally legends Roger Clark and Paddy Hopkirk and the three-times Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser. However, for most, the cars were the stars, and what a line up! Jaguar, Mini Cooper S, MGB, Triumph, Aston Martin, Porsche, Healey, Mercedes, Morgan, Alfa Romeo and many more.

Throughout the Marathon the crews would face a variety of tests, from Lydden Circuit in Kent to the awesome Alpine passes of northern Italian, via the villages and countryside of Belgium and Germany. Arguably one of the toughest trials, and definitely one of the many must-see sequences in this film, is the speed test on the infamous Stelvio - 48 hairpins packed into just eight miles!

Along the way you will travel with Moss, Hopkirk and Unser, courtesy of onboard footage, enjoy breathtaking film of vintage vehicles at speed and soak up the evocative sounds of the unforgettable engine notes. As well as action, there is heartbreak as mechanical gremlins end the hopes of many, and one or two classic cars limp away from the field more than a little battle-scarred - including Unser's E-type Jaguar following an altercation with a bus!

Wonderful camerawork, spectacular scenery, plenty of interviews and the always engaging commentary of the legendary Murray Walker transport you to the roads of Europe to join the great drivers and iconic cars for a celebration of the true spirit of motoring.

"Very Enjoyable, Not long enough!!" - E. Vickers, Redcar
