After the sensational season opener in Holland the World 500 motocross contenders moved to France for Round 2 of the 1989 Motocross Championship. The St Joan de Angely track provided high excitement and drama. Team Honda riders Eric Geboers and Dave Thorpe were set to restore factory pride after Dirk Guerkens won the opening 500 GP round. Jacky Vimond (Honda) was confident of a good result, as was Jeff Leisk. With the KTM team pinning their hopes on Jacky Martens and Dutchmen Kees van der Ven and Britain's Kurt Nicoll carrying the Kawasaki banner, the line up for the French GP was indeed impressive. None of the action has been missed in this thrillingly typical motocross GP.
