Veteran Michael Rutter was looking to make history with his 8th victory at Macau, but he would have to overcome Honda teammate John McGuinness and young chargers like Martin Jessopp, Simon Andrews, Gary Johnson and Conor Cummins to to the win. The riders also had to cope with reduced track time, the threat of rain and failing light, which all added to the drama.
Rutter’s incredible start gave him an early advantage on the tight, winding street circuit, but Ducati-mounted World Supersport Championship rider Jessopp piled the pressure on, closing the gap as the chequered flag approached.
