Conditions for the 1986 500cc British Grand Prix at Silverstone were atrocious. Incessant rain waterlogged the track, but failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the vast crowd. As this video shows, the championship contenders tried their utmost to build up more points but Eddie Lawson displayed the greatest staying power. Round the treacherously smooth Northamptonshire circuit, the aces slid and slithered, with Australian Wayne Gardner out to capitalise on his pole position. The 250cc race saw a renewed battle between the fiery Venezuelan Carlos Lavado (Yamaha) and Honda riders Sito Pons, Toni Mang, Dominique Sarron and Carlos Cardus. Witness some top-class racing!
