Everything depended on the final round of the 1987 Formula One World Championship at the Donington Park track. Honda’s Joey Dunlop had held the title for the previous five years and to aid his chances of another title, Dunlop was given the Bol d’Or winning 750 cc Honda but knew the chances of defeating Virginio Ferrari (Yamaha) were slim. Other Yamahas were in the hands of David Tardozzi and Peter Rubato and the spectacular Merkel had a Honda expected to be the equal. Then there were Suzukis, piloted by Roger Marshall and Paul Iddon. It all added up to superb tension and this video gets to the very heart of the action.
