The Pirelli British Rally takes in some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK through its 8 round championship. These visually stunning settings are also home to some of the most demanding rally stages that the UK has to offer. The cancellation of the 1st round, Rally of Wales, was a great disappointment but the action that followed throughout the remainder of the season more than made up for this initial setback.
The early stages of the season saw Tapio Laukkanen and Jonny Milner fighting for the top spot. Laukkanen didn’t record points in the Jim Clark Memorial Rally or the Manx International leaving the door open for Milner to extend a lead and for the rest of the field to put a challenge in for 2nd place. The season was full of inspired driving, tense battles and close shaves which concluded with Milner taking the title, Austin McHale taking second place rewarding his consistent performances and Laukkanen languishing in 3rd.
Typical British weather ensured that the season saw variable conditions testing driver’s abilities to the limit. You can’t have a British Rally season without amazing action and fantastic driving and the Pirelli British Rally 2003 was no exception. Brilliant footage of amazing rallying comes as standard in this official review of the 2003 season.
