The eleventh round of the 1991 season was won by Didier Auriol driving for Jolly Club in the Lancia Delta Integrale 16V.

The Frenchman never really looked like being headed, despite a puncture on the early stages that cost him 30 seconds.

In a display of driving as fine as any seen on the Italian gravel and asphalt Auriol spent the second day of the rally casually 10 to 15 seconds per stage to build an overall lead of over two minutes.

The breathtaking scenery was matched by the exhilarating pace, style and composure of Didier Auriol and co-driver Bernard Occelli’s performance, especially given they were competing against opposition of the quality of Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankkunen, Miki Biasion, Armin Schwarz and Sanremo specialist Dario Cerrato
