Product description

The 1996 European Rally season showcased a masterclass in car control across the continent’s most unforgiving terrains in a variety of championships. From the sub-zero snowbanks of Norway’s Snøfreser'n Rally to the narrow, sun-drenched mountain hairpins of the Rally of Madeira, the year was defined by high-speed drama and mechanical attrition.

Witness Belgium’s finest talent in Patrick Snijers (Ford Escort RS Cosworth), "Fast Freddy” Loix (Toyota Celica GT-Four), who dominated events like the Ypres 24 Hours Rally and Rallye du Condroz andGrégoire De Mévius (Ford Escort RS Cosworth) who ultimately secured the Belgian Rallly Championship title.  In the European Championship, Armin Schwarz utilized his World Rally experience to pilot his Toyota Celica T-Four to the crown, overcoming a fierce challenge from Ford-mounted Kurt Göttlicher.

The season also showcased the technical evolution of "Formula 2" kit cars, like the the screaming Peugeot 306 Maxi and Renault Clio Maxi.  They proved that they could humble four-wheel-drive giants on dry tarmac, providing some of the closest battles of the decade. Whether it was the high-flying jumps in Norway or water-splashed stages of Spa in Belgium, 1996 remained an unforgettable year for fans of sideways rally action.  This review features some of the best events, cars and drivers from 1996 across the European continent and is essential viewing for any rally fan!
