In a race that turned into a 161 lap Richards family reunion, father Jim outpaced son Steven in a historic and nail biting finish to the AMP Bathurst 1000.
Richards senior teamed with Swedish ace Rickard Rydell to storm to victory in a Volvo S40 in the two-litre touring car showdown, just edgin out the Nissan Primera of Richards junior and his British team mate Matt Neal.
Less than two seconds split first from second after almost seven hours of racing and never before has a father and son scored a Bathurst quinella - the two recording the closest ever 'racing' finish in the 1000km epic.
Even in the dying stages of the race the two were swapping faster laps, Neal in the Nissan pulling out everything to put pressure on Rydell and hopefully force an error as the laps ran down.
Indeed the pace was so frantic from the world go that only one other car finished the endurance test on the same lap. Soak it up!
