The Olympics of Motocross' lived up to expectations for 40,000 European fans when top riders from both sides of the Atlantic met in France for the 1988 FIM Motocross des Nations team event. The US task force of Ron Lechien, Jeff Ward and Rick Johnson was on top form and was only stopped from total domination by talented Europeans Rob Herring and Jean Michel Bayle. The camera crews were also out in force and captured some of the finest motocross action ever seen in a team event. Bayle was the undisputed star as he fought back from a slow start to challenge the lead.
