This is the race chosen by fans of the Isle of Man TT as the greatest ever seen on the Mountain course.
The 1992 Senior TT was a legendary battle between Steve Hislop and Cark Fogarty, two of the greatest racers of their generation. Hizzy would become a two-time British superbike champion while Foggy would claim the Superbike World Championship crown an amazing four times.
Almost half the fans who voted chose this race above nine other classic confrontations as the greatest TT race ever from a shortlist drawn up by leading figures in the road racing world, including John McGuinness, Ian Hutchinson, Michael Dunlop and Dave Molyneux, Charlie Williams, Steve Parrish and Motor Cycle News journalist Gary Pinchin.
The 1992 Senior TT saw Hislop and Fogarty on unfamiliar machines; Foggy was on a Loctite Yamaha OW01 while Hizzy rode an Abus-backed Norton rotary.
However, that didn’t stop them delivering one of the truly memorable showdowns in TT history, with both riders smashing records during the race.
First Hislop broke his own lap record, then Fogarty raised it to 123.61mph. But Hislop was not to be denied and set about attacking the outright race record for the Senior, the blue riband event of the TT.
Victory for Hizzy would give Norton its first TT win in almost 20 years, and first Senior TT glory since 1961!
