In 1986 a tidal wave of red, white and blue
swept through London
and the home counties when the big, brassy, bold and colourful world of Network
SouthEast was launched.
Thousands of locos, coaches and units were
painted in the new 'toothpaste' livery and this trend continued until the
mid-1990s and privatisation.
This new programme from Train Crazy looks
back at the locos and trains which made the NSE years so special.
This is not a history programme, nor does
it feature every loco and unit - this is an enthusiast’s journey, looking at
the Class 47s and 50s painted in the NSE livery in the late 1980s and early
1990s.
We're at Paddington and these trains never
stop! 47s, 50s, rakes of 12 coaches coming and going all day!
Footage from Salisbury,
Exeter and
Dawlish is also included.
In addition, various freight trains are
featured hauled by 33s, 37s 47s and 56s with the majority in BR Blue of the
various Railfreight colours from that time.
The iconic NSE 47s and 50s hauling huge
rakes of coaches have gone forever - this programme will bring the memories
flooding back.
