The championship concluded in a dramatic climax with Gregorio Lavilla, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Leon Haslam jockeying for the coveted title. 

In a season that saw thrilling clashes between super-fast, highly competitive riders, it wasn't until the second half of the summer that the final result started to become clear.

Fans' favourite Kiyonari had his work cut out to reel in Lavilla who had got out of the blocks very quickly and built up a strong position over the first five rounds but "Kiyo" kept in contact and later started to pull clear as he got into a consistent streak.
