The Porsche 956 was the dominant force in World Sportscar racing in the early 1980s in the expert hands of the likes of Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Jochen Mass and Hans Stuck.  But the most memorable achievement for the marque came at the 1983 Nurburgring 1000km when rising star Stefan Bellof blitzed the lap record around the Nordschliefe circuit, setting a time of 6 mins 11.13 seconds, which was a record that would stand for 35 years!
