Product description

Mike Hailwood was a true prodigy on a bike. In his stellar career he won 9 World Championship titles (all between 1961 and 1967) and a total of 14 Isle of Man TT Races.

His skills were held in such high regard that when Honda withdrew from World Championship motorcycle racing in 1968 they paid Mike to not ride for anyone else.

This limited edition 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle features a painting of Mike Hailwood on his way to one of his most famous victories: the 1967 Isle of Man TT Senior Race.

The TT was celebrating its 60th anniversary in '67 and the scene was set for a monumental showdown between Mike and Giacomo Agostini. Riding for the famous and prestigious MV Agusta factory, 'Ago' set a fiery pace in the opening laps of the Senior Race, with a new lap record from a standing start to lead the race by over 11 seconds.

Mike responded with his own new lap record (which wouldn't be beaten for eight years) and slowly chipped away at the Italian's lead until they were on level pegging by lap five. The race was decided when Giacomo's chain broke on the mountain, but Mike gallantly declared at the finish that he though Ago would have won if he'd been able to continue.

Peter Hearsey's stunning painting captures the elegant shape of the big Honda and Mike's typically neat and stylish riding style as he round Quarterbridge in full flight.

Peter's career has seen him win accolades across the world for his encapsulation of the excitement, drama and pleasure of iconic motorsport moments, including creating many of the collectible official posters for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The puzzle is crafted from 100% recycled quality millboard and printed with waterbased pigments to ensure this is a planet friendly product.
