John Parkin is a Yorkshire born artist who has painted portraits of motor cycle legends and F1 drivers of the golden era, since he can remember.  The movies and documentaries of the 50s, 60’s and 70’s were often his source of inspiration as a kid, having always been fascinated by speed, the pursuit of greatness, the innovation, the liveries, colours, sponsors, fags and booze and the culture.

"I find the outwardly calm, relaxed nature of those drivers/riders captivating.  Living life on the absolute edge, the best of whom make it look remarkably simple, we all know it is anything but.  That’s why I like to paint their portraits, to try and capture a little bit of that greatness.  Mike “The Bike” Hailwood is one of these accomplished giants, a once in a generation rider and driver, who made it look easy!"

This t-shirt print illustrates John's superb portrait of Mike Hailwood in action on his MV Agusta at the 1964 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa and he drew inspiration from this superb on-board film footage of Mike that features on the Duke Video YouTube channel.
