The 1983 Tour de Corse rally witnessed a memorable clash between the might of Audi and Lancia on Corsica's notorious tarmac.  In scorching hot conditions, British rally star Tony Pond took on the challenge of the works European supercars in a much-lower spec, two-wheel drive Datsun 240RS and put up an incredible fight! 

As the temperatures rose inside and outside the cars, the Mediterranean drivers began to suffer from heat exhaustion coupled with the physical demands of driving such powerful monsters.  At the service-halt the drivers were given massages, cold towels to their foreheads and replenishing energy drinks to help them cope with such oppressive conditions.  But not Tony Pond....he opted for a nice hot cup of English tea and opted to "soldier on".  This coaster is our tribute to that classic moment in rally history and a great British rally icon and his love of tea!
