'Decade of Thrills' relives the most explosive and dramatic moments of ten years of professional American drag racing in ninety heart-stopping minutes. Hosted by drag racing superstar Don 'the snake' Prudhomme and top TV commentator Steve Evans, this programme is a sometimes frightening - but often funny - view of a great American motorsport at its extreme limits.
Yet it is also a tribute to the safety and ingenuity of a sport that grew out of the dry lake beds of the California Desert. Car after car smokes-out, skids, crashes, ploughs into the catch fencing, or even 'vaporises' but no-one is seriously hurt from start to finish. And all this in vehicles which cover a 1/4 of a mile in as little as 5 seconds and even accelerate from rest up to 250mph in the process! Even when nothing goes wrong the 'best of the best' are pretty impressive when the nitro-methane-charged fuel is flowing through the 2000+ horsepower mills, as fast as you could pour it out of a bucket!
See legendary Gerry Back breaking his own record world speed record with a stunning 5.39 second run in a duel with Dwight Salisbury which ends with Salisbury's car as a ball of fire. Or simply enjoy the brilliant opening sequence of drag racers doing the disaster waltz! Some of preducer Diamond P's best material accompaied by an entertaining commentary makes this a drag racing video classic.
