His career began when he was quite overwhelmed on hearing an alto saxophone, so he hire-purchase his own instrument. Soon his big band was playing top London venues between extensive world tours. He was still touring into his eighty-fifth year. His name is now a byword in big band entertainment. He’s become a living legend.
