Every year more than a billion dollars-worth of the world’s finest cars arrive on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula in California. They line up on the fairways of one of the world’s most exclusive golf courses, with the bright blue of the Pacific Ocean and the misty green of distant mountains as a stunning backdrop.
This is the annual Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach – the world’s most famous exhibition of exotic and expensive cars, many worth millions of dollars.
Pebble Beach is the climax to a wonderful week of classic car events that include the Concorso Italiano - for Italian cars only - and auctions at which massive sums routinely change hands in exchange for exotic cars.
This programme, shot in high definition, covers them all, letting you get up close and personal with some of the most desirable and valuable cars on Earth, and see the automotive exotica at its best.
Among the hundreds of cars on display at ‘the Beach’ in 2010 there were special celebrations marking the centenaries of both Alfa Romeo and the Indianapolis 500, 50 years of the Ferrari 250GT SWB and the fact it had been 75 years since the Jaguar name first appeared on a car.
The Jaguar tribute was made unique by a special display of the ultra-rare XKSS sports car, the road-going version of the Le Mans-winning D-Type Jaguar from the mid-1950s. Only 16 were built before the tooling for their construction was destroyed in a massive fire at the Jaguar factory and, incredibly, an unprecedented 12 were on the field at Pebble Beach…including one originally purchased by Hollywood superstar, Steve McQueen.
Billion Dollars at the Beach is your VIP invitation to an exclusive celebration of the very best in motoring.
