A childhood dream came true for Wayne Gardner when he became the first Australian to win the 500 cc World Championship. Riding the water-cooled four-cylinder two stroke NSR Honda, he was in a class of his own from start to finish of the 15 rounds of the series ranging from Japan in March to Argentina in October. This video is a tribute to his marvellous endeavours completed on the eve of Australia’s 200th anniversary celebrations. It follows Wayne through every step of the arduous season as he fought to break down the determined resistance of 86 champion Eddie Lawson on the Marlboro Yamaha. Features on bike cameras and action from every round.
