Christian Sarron ended 30 years French absence from the 500cc rostrum when he rode a Gauloise-sponsored Yamaha to victory in the German GP at Hockenheim. Watch Sarron's mastery in the wet as Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer were left out of the picture. This film also demonstrates the admirable consistency of British rider Ron Haslam and there are some good shots of hard-trying Humberside rider Rob McElnea keeping Randy Mamola out of the big points. It was Sarron's day and he gave the French supporters their biggest thrill since he won the smaller class last year.
