On Sunday 25th February, in front of 70,073, Chelsea went head to head with Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, competing for the 2007 Carling Cup.

On the way to Cardiff, Chelsea had overcome Blackburn, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and a spirited Wycombe Wanderers in the two legged semi final. But now, Chelsea were up against the highly talented Arsenal youngsters who had managed to score six goals against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Final got off to a flying start as Theo Walcott scored his first ever Arsenal goal to put the North Londerers one up after only 12 minutes. However, it only took a further 8 minutes for Didier Drogba to stroke home the equaliser, for his 27th goal of the season.

Early in the second half John Terry was knocked unconscious following a sickening accident. After a lengthy delay for treatment, Terry was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital, later to return to the Millennium Stadium to join his team mates again in the post match celebrations.

Losing their skipper appeared to galvanise The Blues and it was Drogba yet again who proved to be the match-winner when he got in front of his marker, Philippe Senderos, to produce a superb header from Robben's cross for a 2-1 lead.

As the game entered injury-time the match exploded when John Mikel and Kolo Toure instigated a shoving match that resulted in both managers taking the field to calm their players down. Both Mikel and Toure, together with Emmanuel Adebayor, were dismissed.

It was an explosive conclusion to a breathless game, and as the clock ticked past 101 minutes, referee Howard Webb finally blew his whistle to confirm that Chelsea were the victors in the 2007 Carling Cup, handing Jose Mourinho his fourth major trophy in English football.
