The rally proved a vital stage in the hotly contested title battle that year.
Jimmy McRae secured the title at the wheel of his Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, change from the Lancia he started the season in.
The Manx tarmac also played host to Pentti Airikkala and Russell Brookes in the Opals, David Llewellin in the Audi and many other big names of British rallying, including Bertie Fisher and Louise Airken Walker.
