    Product description

Presented by Ashes winning captain David Dower, History of the Ashes is a comprehensive look at one of the oldest and most keenly contested of all international cricket rivalries.

Beginning with an explanation from the late great broadcaster John Arlott as to how it all began, the programme includes the first moving footage of an Ashes tour with the visit of Australia in 1905. Featured in these early years are legendary figures from the game including WG Grace, Duleepsinjhi, Victor Trumper, Clem Hill, Jack Hobbs and Herbert Sutcliffe.

There is also an extended profile of the incomparable Sir Don Bradman, the man who dominated cricket in the 1930's and 40's, including his victorious and emotional farewell in 1948.

On the English side all the greats are featured as well as many of the finest moments in English cricket from Jim Laker's 19 wickets at Old Trafford to 'fiery' Fred Trueman's 300th test match victim.

The pacemen who have struck fear into the hearts of batsmen are seen in all their stump-shattering glory from Harold Larwood, Frank tyson, Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee to Bob Willis and Glenn McGrath.

The cunning captaincy of Richie Benaud and Mike Brearley is also put under the spotlight as well as the unplayable deliveries from modern masters such as Shane Warne and Darren Gough.

The legendary 1981 series, the contest which became known as 'Botham's Ashes' is covered in depth, capturing the great all-rounder at the very height of his powers.

History of The Ashes brings this sporting saga right up to date with dramatic highlights from the 2001 series and a special feature on the recent battle in Australia 2002/3.
