    Product description

From 1948 until 1962, Farnborough was the world's greatest air show, featuring all that was best about British aviation. John Blake, show commentator from 1974-1992 and author of '40 Years at Farnborough's S.B.A.C International Aviation Showcase', presents this unique year-by-year film history of the event up to 1962 - the last annual show. Combining newsreel footage and official film records of Farnborough, it presents a dazzling array of British aircraft, with ground cameras recording the ultra low-level fly pasts, air-to-air filming and even early in-cockpit material! All the shows from 1957 onward are in full colour. Literally dozens and dozens of aircraft are captured on film, in various marks. Military aircraft include the Meteor, Javelin, Victor, Vulcan and Valiant bombers, Swift, Canberra, Hunter, Gnat, Avro CF100, Sea Hawk, Gannet, Scimitar, Sea Vixen, Lightning and Buccaneer. Research aircraft and prototypes include the Short SB5 and SC1, Midge fighter, Vickers N113 and 535, Fairey Delta 2, Lincoln flying test bed, Nomad Lincoln Composite, Boulton Paul 111, Avro 707B, P1, Handley Page 115 Delta, Bristol 188 and Hawker P1127 (later to become the Harrier). Civil airliners include the Brabazon, Britannia, Viscount, dh Heron, Comet, Twin Pioneer, Herald, Princess flying boat, Accountant, Vanguard, Avro 748 and VC10. Helicopters include the Bristol 171, 173 and 192, Skeeter, Fairey Ultralight, Jet Gyrodyne, Rotodyne and the Westland Widgeon, Whirlwind, Wessex, Scout and Belvedere. Meteors, Javelins, Hunters, Scimitars, Sea Hawks, Sea Vixens and Lightnings are all captured flying formations or performing aerobatics. Other features on this DVD include coverage of the SBAC's earliest displays at Hendon, two Vulcans flying formation with four delta wing prototypes, a Lincoln refuelling a Meteor, Mosquitos recreating the Amiens Raid, the tragic destruction of the dh 110, a Skeeter 'Barn Dance', the Black Arrows looping 22 Hunters, a V-Bomber scramble and flypast - and much, much more!
