The first instalment of the BFI’s British Transport Commission film set
showcases the scope and breadth of the film unit’s remit. The demands of the
newly nationalised railways saw the BTF make informational programmes on topics
as diverse as the Blue Pullman, Sir John Betjeman’s passion for rail travel and
the daily operations of a mainline rail terminus, to the more mundane or
esoteric such as ‘I am a Litter Basket’ and ‘Farmer Moving South
(A Winter Journey)’
