Mostly filmed at the 1968 Indy 500, Winning achieves the rare feat of being a decent film about racing and an enjoyable film in its own right.
Starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward and Robert Wagner, this is a proper big budget 1960s Hollywood film.
Newman, of course, was a big motor racing fan and his portrayal of an exceptionally driven competitor has many of the hallmarks to be expected of a great actor.
The plot sees Frank Capua (Newman) obsessed by winning the Indianapolis 500 and willing to put everything on the line to achieve his goals.
Unfortunately his eye is so firmly on the asphalt he fails to see his marriage is creaking at the seams - his friend and rival Luther Erding (Wagner) doesn't miss the tell-tale signs though...
Can Frank win the Indy 500 and save his flagging marriage?
Features Bobby Unser, Bobby Grim, Dan Gurney, Roger McCluskey and Terry Hulman in cameo appearances. Plus loads of awesome '60s race cars.
