It was Great Britain who stopped the USA's winning streak in 1994, and their victory encouraged all Europeans to believe the Yanks could be beaten again. With Hughes, Lamson and Emig riding for the USA it certainly wasn't going to be a pushover. Other strong teams were Belgium and France. The Belgian team, with two newly crowned World Champions Smets and Everts and vice-champion Bervoets, believed they could win. By the final lap all eyes were focused on Smets. Crossing the line, the huge crowd erupted into applause. Belgium were the 1995 Motocross des Nations Champions again, after waiting for fifteen years.
