    Product description

This superbly illustrated book, consisting of largely unpublished photographs, has been created to celebrate the Centenary of Grand Prix racing, the first officially credited Grand Prix having taken place at Le Mans in France in 1906.

The book details the rise in popularity of motor sport until the advent of the first World Championship Grand Prix races were organised in 1925. After WWII, Grand Prix racing gradually developed into the professional sport that we know today, becoming a high-tech showcase for the manufacturersÍ skills.

The book contains photographs of the ïbasicÍ cars of 1906 to the 200+ mph supercars of today, from the Delages, Alfa Romeos, Fiats and Bugattis of the ï20s and ï30s to the Ferraris, Coopers and Maseratis of the ï50s and ï60s and on to the McLarens and Williams of the modern era. Drivers featured include such legendary names as Caracciola, Nuvolari, Varzi, Stuck, Rosemeyer, Fangio, Hawthorn, Moss, Stewart, Villeneuve, Senna, Prost and Schumacher.

    • Trevor Legate is a well-respected motoring writer and photographer. After leaving art college, he became a professional advertising photographer, taking pictures of cars and motor races in his spare time. His motoring photography led to commissions from major automobile manufacturers in the UK and Europe to shoot advertising and brochure pictures.

Trevor built up a large photographic business but still found time to combine his love of writing with photography to produce an acclaimed book about Shelby AC Cobra. This was later revised and updated as Cobra - The Real Thing. It was followed by a book about the Ford GT40 and, more recently, detailed histories of two popular marques, Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet Corvette. Trevor sold his photographic business in 2002 and now concentrates on writing and producing books.
