A contemporary account of the 1882 Australian tour of England. With individual illustrations of each member of the team and full scores of all the matches. The 1882 Australian team was one of the strongest to visit England playing thirty-four first class matches, winning eighteen and losing only four. They became the first team to win a Test match in England when they won the only Test match of the summer. The Sporting Times then published a mock obituary to English cricket which gave birth to The Ashes.
This is a facsimile reprint of the 1882 edition, with a new frontispiece and a new introduction by John Arlott.
