Around the world lie a number of long-forgotten raceways,
windswept and abandoned, the derelict pit roads and crumbling concrete are all
that remains of once great race tracks.
This is an evocative and original look at the history of abandoned
race circuits in the USA and Europe, from the NASCAR heartland of North
Wilkesboro and Middle Georgia to the great European super speedways at Monza
and Brooklands, and viewed as they are today in stunning new photographs.
Speedway:
Auto Racing’s Ghost Tracks is an atmospheric journey through these circuits,
looking at them in their heyday and as they are today. The stunning original
photographs of every circuit by award winning photographer Gavin D Ireland are
accompanied by track diagrams showing the evolution of the circuits, period
photos and memorabilia illustrations such as programme.
Other circuits examined include Augusta International, Sitges,
Linas-Montlhery and AVUS.
