Britain’s
Railways: The Home Front Years – 1944 to 1945
This
volume covers the events from the final Luftwaffe air raids and V1 strikes
through to VE Day. There’s colour footage of the temporary GWR HQ at
Aldermaston in full-swing and black and white film of trains transporting all
the men and materiel needed for the D-Day invasion.
We see hospital and Red
Cross trains, railway howitzers being tested at Meldon Quarry, bomb damage to
railways in London, an interview with the Soham disaster driver and footage of
the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Light Railway’s war work.
