When
Jenson Button burst on to the Formula One scene in 2000 with Williams, he was
set to be the next big thing in Grand Prix racing.
Sadly
that promise failed to materialise and the British ace scored just one victory
in eight seasons of racing. However, Button’s gritty determination and
undoubted talents earned him legions of fans, all wanting to see the man from
Frome in Somerset
achieve the success his skills deserved.
With
the full backing of Honda, Button and his supporters had their fingers crossed that
2008 would be his year. Instead, he endured a season of frustration with a desperately
underperforming car.
It is
in the face of adversity that Button is at his best, and he managed to keep his
head high and stayed loyal to the team throughout the hardships. When Honda
pulled out of Formula One at the end of 2008, it looked like Button’s career
could be over.
Once
again, in the face of adversity, Button stayed loyal to the team and when Ross
Brawn took over the outfit, the loyalty was rewarded with a race seat for 2009.
Amazingly,
Button took the Brawn GP car to victory in its first race, the season-opening
Australian Grand Prix.
Although
2008 was a frustrating season for Button and his Honda team, it was a pivotal period
in the British driver’s career, and is commemorated in this stunning image of
Button driving the Honda RA108.
