    Product description

The 2006/2007 Ashes Series is being held in Australia, starting in October 2006 in Brisbane. This globally recognized sporting phenomenon began in Melbourne 15th March 1877, and since then has provided over one hundred and thirty years of thrilling cricket between two fiercely competitive nations. It is this rivalry and passion for the game that sees thousands of fanatical cricket fans follow the Ashes, no matter where on the globe it is played. This Ashes series is expected to be the biggest and best ever, with an estimated 30,000 British travellers planning the trip to Australia. What makes this series different is that it is attracting not only the naturally obsessed English cricket fans, but also those English men and women new to the world of cricket, lured by the possibility of England beating Australia again in a sporting competition, and delighted with the prospect of visiting the land down under at the same time. Only a small percentage of these 30,000 English travellers have visited Australia recently and many never at all. So, how do they know where to stay, what to eat, where to drink, how to get around, and what to see and do? Sure there are a variety of excellent and extensive travel guides available for purchase in UK bookshops, however, none of these were written specifically for cricket or the 2006/2007 Ashes Series. Each chapter covers important information including: history of the Ashes; the Cricket Ground and venue details for each State; detailed maps of each city and its landmarks and attractions; fast facts relating to individual States; step by step transport guide: including getting to and from the airport, the cricket ground and around the city; accommodation specifically situated around the ground from budget to high end; where and what to drink in each city: a beer guide for each State; and pub guide specifically concentrated on those situated around the grounds and those well known to each State; and places to eat - either on a budget or gourmet cuisine.
