Welcome to Doncaster...
Flying Scotsman, Silver Link, Mallard, Blue Peter - ‘The Plant’, as Doncaster’s
railway workshops were known, produced many of Britain’s finest, fastest and
most-famous steam locomotives, many named after the racehorses which were
synonymous with the town.
It was also a railway centre with a character all of its own; The Carr, the
Crimpsall shops and Decoy yard; these were names with a fascination all of their
own, familiar to many generations of enthusiasts.
This 132-page book is the story of the
town’s railways and its locomotives, from the opening of the first line, up to
the present day.
