The Imperial War Musuem Collection features rare and fascinating original films preserved in the Museum's archives. Many have never been released to the public before and are presented here, complete and uncut, for the first time. Included here are five previously unreleased early wartime films featuring British tanks and armoured cars. Together, they offer a treasure trove of rare footage as well as an insight into tank design, recognition and fighting tactics. Tank Battle: Made by the Army Film Unit in 1942, this film features a large-scale exercise showing how a British armoured formation reconnoitres and locates the enemy and then how a plan is made and passed down to the men who have to fight the battle. Ten Tips For Tackling Tanks: Made by the Directorate of Army Kinematography (DAK) in 1941, this training film instructs British infantrymen on the best methods of attacking tanks by revealing their particular weaknesses. Spot That Tank: This fascinating AVF recognition film, made by DAK in 1942, looks at the elements of tank and armoured car designs and provides useful hints and tips for distinguishing armour at different angles and in partly obscured positions. Tank Patrol: Made in 1941, this stirring MOI dramatisation tells the story of a Crusader tank crew trapped behind enemy lines in the Desert. Birth Of A Tank: This 1942 MOI film follows the process of construction of a typical British Army tank.
