HOLIDAYS ON WHEELS - Hop on board for a purely nostalgic film trip back into the 1950s, when going abroad by charabanc was a really big adventure. Producer David Wood presents a unique video collection of rare colour promotional films from the early 1950s, when pioneer Wallace Arnold was Britain's biggest tour operator. One of the delights of coach trips is the ability to see so much. The first film entitled Luxury Touring Home and Abroad proves just that with a scenic tour around the lochs and glens of Scotland. This is followed by a trip to Switzerland's cuckoo clock country around Lucerne and Interlaken.
The second short film includes a Sunday school trip to Whitby and day out to see British Grand Prix at Aintree. The final short promotional film, Holiday From Home takes a typically British tour to the seaside. Scarborough in the 1950s is a sea of deckchairs, rolled up trousers and knotted hankies. As the narrator says "there is nothing to do except enjoy yourself". So settle back in your luxury Wallace Arnold chair, press play and enjoy this rare feast of 1950s cars, bikes, lake steamers and of course vintage coaches.
